Breast Cancer Survivors Learn Healthy Stress Response at Ontario Wellness Spa
Port Hope, ON (PRWEB) September 25, 2006
To celebrate Breast Cancer Awareness Month, The Hillcrest Valenova, an overnight wellness spa in Port Hope, Ontario, launches wellness retreats 3 nights in length that help breast cancer survivors and their supporters choose healthy responses to the stress of critical illness. During the retreat, guests participate in a customized workshop and individual stress management session delivered by Robin Dines, Stress and Wellness Consultant certified by The Canadian Institute of Stress.
“By helping women understand their unique ‘stresstype’, or way of responding to stressful situations, they can take action to build a healthier response to everyday stresses. The physical benefits are immediate — deeper breathing, increased mental focus and a more confident, optimistic outlook on life, even during the most critical of illnesses,” comments Dines.
The Strength Through Wellness spa retreat is built upon twenty years of clinical research on the Body Age which is conducted across the globe. The Body Age studies, founded on the principles of Dr. Hans Seyle and carried out by Dr. Richard Earle of The Canadian Institute of Stress, showed that of 3000 participants, body age was reduced by 11 years on average. In addition, participants increased their “Vitality Quotient”, which indicates the extent to which one enjoys optimal health and participates in a full life.
Sonja Shepherd, of Hearth Place Cancer Support Centre in Oshawa, Ontario remarked after a visit to the Spa, “The nurturing atmosphere at The Hillcrest Valenova allows women in all stages of cancer recovery to seek wellness on new levels. Cancer friendly treatments such as massage, reiki, and aromatherapy promote relaxation and help heal the body and soul, while the tranquil surroundings of the elegant overnight spa allow the spirit to be refreshed.”
The Hillcrest Valenova wellness spa employs mature, experienced staff, each of whom has a friend or family member touched by breast cancer. Spa Manager Simone Beitler explains, “We have the utmost regard for our guests’ dignity and privacy. The one-to-one ratio of staff-to-guest allows us to truly be ‘daymakers.’ This could be as simple as taking a reflexology treatment to a guest’s suite so they can be tucked into bed immediately following. We look for whatever might heighten the well-being of the person in that moment.”
The Valenova Wellness Spa is North America’s first and only Dr. Hauschka Destination Spa. Using this biodynamic product line imported from Germany, the Valenova spa menu is customized for breast cancer survivors.
The new Strength Through Wellness retreats at The Hillcrest Valenova Wellness Spa help breast cancer survivors to deal positively with the stress of a critical illness. Retreats run Tuesday-Thursday weekly, and include workshop, private consultation, all meals, spa treatments and overnight spa accommodations. Breast cancer survivors save by mentioning the Pink Ribbon Club.
