Dave Williams and Fellow Astronauts Thank Neptec for Performance on Endeavour Mission

Ottawa, ON (PRWEB) October 30, 2007

OTTAWA, Canada – October 30, 2007 – Yesterday, the crew of the STS-118 Endeavour Shuttle mission visited Neptec Design Group, a leader in intelligent 3D vision systems for military, manufacturing and aerospace applications. The crew, which includes Canadian Space Agency astronaut Dave Williams, provided Neptec with an overview of the mission and discussed the success of Neptec’s Laser Camera System (LCS).

The LCS, a laser-based 3D scanner mandatory on every shuttle mission, was used on the August STS-118 mission to examine an area of damage on the outer thermal protective system and provide NASA with the information needed to ensure that the Shuttle and its crew would safely return to Earth at the end of the mission.

“I am very proud that Canadian technology is playing such a critical role on the international space program,” said Williams. “Neptec’s LCS did exactly what was asked of it and helped to ensure we all returned home safe and sound.”

The LCS became a critical component on the Endeavor’s mission when damage to the underside of the shuttle’s hull was discovered. During takeoff, insulating foam from the external fuel tanks broke away and struck areas of the Endeavour’s thermal protective system. Neptec’s LCS was used to recreate exact replicas of the damaged thermal tile that could be carefully examined and tested in simulation environments. NASA determined the area, which was found to be 3.5 inches in length and 2.0 inches wide, would not cause any risk to the Shuttle or its crew when it returned through the Earth’s atmosphere.

“It’s always a great thrill when a shuttle crew does us the honour of coming for a visit after a flight. We are privileged at Neptec to be able to see the concrete results of the hard work that everyone here does every day,” said Dr. Iain Christie, President of Neptec. “The LCS played a crucial role on the STS-118 mission, and this debrief is important to ensure the next generation of Neptec systems integrate the ideas from the end-users – in this instance, NASA astronauts in orbit.”

Halogen Software Signs 100th New Customer of 2004 – Company Growth Rides on Incredible Demand for its Employee Performance Management Software

Halogen Software Signs 100th New Customer of 2004 – Company Growth Rides on Incredible Demand for its Employee Performance Management Software

Ottawa (PRWEB) December 10, 2004

December 9, 2004 –Halogen Software Inc., a leading provider of Web-based employee performance management (EPM) software, has now signed more than 100 new customers so far in 2004. That makes 2004 the strongest year yet for the Ottawa-based company, and makes Halogen one of the most successful companies in its market space.

The new customer wins already translate into 200% year-over-year growth for Halogen—well above the industry rate projected by sector analysts. For example, Gartner analyst James Holincheck’s recently published report on Employee Performance Management (EPM) predicts that “the EPM software market will demonstrate at least a 15 percent compound annual growth rate (CAGR) through 2008.”1

“Halogen’s growth has been propelled by its award-winning Halogen eAppraisal product—and the dedicated team behind it,” said Paul Loucks, President of Halogen Software. “We’re often told that our solutions have the features customers need, yet are much simpler and more cost-effective to implement and use than those of our competitors. The Christiana Care win we announced last week was another public confirmation of the value that we offer over our competitors.”

Delaware-based Christiana Care Health System is one of the premiere health care providers in the U.S. mid-Atlantic region. It recently selected Halogen eAppraisal Healthcare over competitive product offerings to automate performance evaluations for its 9,500 employees.

“Signing 100 clients this year is an impressive achievement, especially given that a majority of enterprises have yet to move beyond paper-based workforce performance management,” said Lisa Rowan, program manager for HR management and staffing services at technology research firm IDC. “Halogen’s success underscores the opportunity for automating this time-consuming and laborious event into an ongoing function that can drive new processes and guide organizational culture.”

Top Business Coaches Share Secret Behind Long Term High Performance

Top Business Coaches Share Secret Behind Long Term High Performance

Vancouver (PRWEB) May 24, 2006 –-

In today’s fast paced environment, business professionals must efficiently manage their energy when increasing demands are being placed on their tight time budget. A June 2005 poll by Ipsos-Reid found that 66 percent of 114 Canadian CEOs who participated in the survey reported that “stress, burnout or other physical and mental health issues” are having a negative impact on work force productivity. In 2000, the most recent year for which estimates were done, Statistics Canada calculated the annual cost of work time lost to stress as $ 12-billion.

While Canadian employees constantly have to deal with stressful workplace situations, the 1999 Workplace and Employee Survey found that only 26% of employees had access to employer implemented employee assistance programs aimed at addressing human and financial costs associated with stress.

According to Russell Hunter, National Director of Energy for Performance programs in Canada, “Stress, in and of itself, is not the real enemy for most leaders. Stress can be a great ally and stimulus for growth. The real problem is insufficient renewal and recovery. This requires more than just taking a vacation once in awhile and cutting down on work hours. It requires energy management skills to recover quickly physically, mentally, and emotionally in a moment of stress, as well specific practices to create daily, weekly, and annual renewal. Few leaders have learned how to master these skills the way high performance athletes have, yet the demands placed upon them are even greater at times.”

To help address this growing need, Tekara Organizational Effectiveness is conducting a 2-day workshop on May 24 – 25 in Vancouver as part of a 90-day personal leadership development program called The Energy for Performance Core Program. The program aims to help high performers identify performance barriers and develop specific performance rituals that support key goals. Expert coaches from Tekara will introduce new techniques based on Dr. Jim Loehr’s energy management principles to leaders from all over BC.

Dr. Jim Loehr emphasizes how managing energy, not time, is the key to high performance in today’s 24/7 working environment. “Great leaders begin by effectively managing their own energy. As leaders, they must then mobilize, focus, invest, channel, renew and expand the energy of others” explains Dr. Jim Loehr. The Energy for Performance Core Program, based on Dr. Jim Loehr’s best selling book “The Power of Full Engagement” and over thirty years of work by the Human Performance Institute, will deliver powerful techniques for leaders to increase and skillfully manage their energy capacity.

The barrier to success for most individuals is that conscious effort cannot be sustained over the long run. “One of the most common and costly problems in our industry is burn-out” said Arich Berghammer, the National Senior Director of Operations. To eliminate this problem, the Energy for Performance Core Program trains the corporate athlete to effectively create energy drives for high performance at clearly defined periods of time and then strategically recovering.

Randall Larrimore, the President and CEO of United Stationers Inc. notes, “none of us can operate flat out of 24/7 for 30 to 40 years at peak performance. To spend more time in the ‘value-creating zone,’ executives need to condition themselves through physical, emotional, mental and spiritual training. This program helped me to understand that training would not only benefit me, but also my company. It is the only program I’ve ever done that caused me to truly change my life.” The principle of the program is to create powerful pulses that drive greater efficiency, improved health and happiness, and sustained high performance.

The Energy for Performance model, described as “a very compelling, pragmatic and universal model” by Steve Reineund, Chairman and CEO of PepsiCo not only provides resources for individuals to perform more effectively under increasing expectations but has also “transformed the way [Reineund] and [his] executives look at [their] lives”. Canadian Amateur Wrestling Association Adopts Crosstrainer Personal Fitness Management Software for Canada Wide Implementation in High Performance Programs.

Partnership Ideal Match to Contribute to Increased Excellence of Canadian National Wrestling Team.

OTTAWA, CANADA, December 16, 2002 – Today the Canadian Amateur Wrestling Association (CAWA) and Innovative Logic jointly announce a 2 year agreement to implement Crosstrainer Personal Fitness Management software throughout the entire wrestling organization. Multi user licenses of Crosstrainer will be provided to each of the thirteen national training centers and two high performance clubs that train national wrestlers. Also the National Program Director, National Office and several National Team athletes will receive Crosstrainer Personal Fitness Management software.

“We were very impressed with several features of the software right from the start,” said Greg Mathieu, Executive Director of the CAWA. “Our sport medicine and science team will be able to use the Wellness tracking and, of course, the Weigh-in profile for a weight based sport is very useful.”

Crosstrainer is a Canadian fitness and nutrition software product that is best known for its unique ability to set and track goals in combination with an athlete’s personal fitness and nutrition. The partnership will provide a platform to implement several upcoming features that are specifically of interest to organizations that would like to enhance their athlete excellence through increasing coach-to-athlete and coach-to-coach communication. Upcoming development will enable coaches to design training plans and share them with their athletes and each other. In this way National Coaches can design a training plan and an event schedule and share it with the athletes nationwide ensuring maximum efficiency and accuracy.

“We are very proud to have an organization as well respected as the Canadian Amateur Wrestling Association as the first Canadian Sport Association to incorporate Crosstrainer,” says Marco Smits Director of Sales and Marketing of Innovative Logic. “Canadian wrestlers have been very successful over the last few years and we are excited to be part of the program and to contribute to increasing excellence of all wrestlers of the association”.

CAWA and Innovative Logic started their talks early this summer and have been working closely together to finalize the details of the partnership. Talks between other National Sport Organizations and Innovative Logic are also underway.

“We have been looking for an integrated program for quite some time. There is really nothing out there that compares,” added Mathieu. “After careful review we made our choice. There is a real demand, and Crosstrainer has risen to the challenge to fill that hole in the market and to support the needs of our sport organization. National sport bodies should find the Crosstrainer software a significant step up from legacy systems.”

“Innovative Logic looks forward to supporting Canada’s successful wrestling program in this critical two year period leading to the 2004 Olympic Games.” says Smits. “It is a great reward to help athletes pursuing and realizing podium performances at international competitions especially the Olympic Games”

Ixia Validates Force10 10 GbE Performance in CERN Transcontinental Network

Ixia Validates Force10 10 GbE Performance in CERN Transcontinental Network

(PRWEB) October 19, 2003

FORCE10 NETWORKS PERFORMANCE IN WORLD’S FIRST TRANSCONTINENTAL 10 GIGABIT ETHERNET NETWORK VERIFIED BY IXIA

MILPITAS, CA (PRWEB) October 15, 2003 – Force10 Networks, Inc., a pioneer in resilient switching and routing, today announced that the performance of the Force10 E-Series switch/routers deployed in a groundbreaking transcontinental 10 Gigabit Ethernet (10 GE) network has been verified as line-rate 10 GE throughput by Ixia (Nasdaq: XXIA), a leading provider of high-speed, network performance and conformance analysis systems.

The network, the world’s first transcontinental 10 GE wide area network, consists of a SURFnet OC-192 lambda between Geneva and the StarLight facility in Chicago via Amsterdam and another OC-192 lambda between this same facility in Chicago and Carleton University in Ottawa, Canada provided by CANARIE and ORANO. In this demonstration, the Force10 switch/routers connected directly to the SONET equipment using two 10 Gbps WAN PHY interfaces.

“The success of this project is a significant milestone in the development of a worldwide high availability, high performance network that will greatly expand the data sharing capabilities of the world’s leading research institutions,” said Andrew Feldman, vice president of marketing at Force10 Networks. “Ixia has used their expertise to verify that a network can deliver true wire speed 10 Gigabit performance over thousands of miles.”

In the deployment, the Ixia 400T traffic generator and analyzer is connected to Force10’s switch/routers to validate performance between the Geneva/Chicago link and the Chicago/Ottawa link. Network expertise and third party validation was also provided by Cortex Networks for the test configuration and execution.

“Force10’s switch/routers were designed for high performance networks, so the throughput validation also required equipment sensitive and robust enough to accurately report on such a wide-scale deployment,” said Alan Amrod, vice president of marketing for Ixia.

The transatlantic tests were preceded by pioneering work on the Geneva – Amsterdam segment of the connection, where SURFnet, University of Amsterdam and CERN were successful in running traffic at line rate on the Force10 WAN PHY connected directly to DWDM equipment in addition to tests run over SONET. Prior to this, CERN, Carleton University, Cortex Networks and CANARIE had performed WAN PHY line rate testing over OC-192 SONET transport equipment in the CANARIE labs in Ottawa.
