Ottawa General Contractors’ Initiative with Habitat for Humanity

Ottawa General Contractors’ Initiative with Habitat for Humanity

During the month of July, Ottawa General Contractors will donate $ 250 on behalf of all home owners signed with Ottawa General Contractors.

Ottawa, Ontario (PRWEB) June 08, 2011

Ottawa General Contractors recently announced the creation of a new program to help support Habitat for Humanity. During the month of July, the company will contribute $ 250 to Habitat for Humanity on behalf of each homeowner who signs for a renovation project of over $ 10,000. Homeowners who have been considering hiring a contractor to make renovations or additions to their homes can ensure that Habitat for Humanity will receive the donations when they sign with Ottawa General Contractors for those renovations before the end of July.

Habitat for Humanity is a non-profit organization with a mission to activate volunteers and partners in the community for the purpose of breaking the poverty cycle by building reasonably priced housing and supporting home ownership. The organization has a vision of a world in which all people have a decent and safe place to live, and its members believe all human beings have worth and dignity. Their mission is to provide everyone with a safe, decent and affordable place to live.

“As the leader of OGC I believe that the underpinning of our humanity has always been the community, starting with the family unit”, says Ottawa General Contractors owner, Moe Abbas. “We are in a position to give and because we are in that position it then becomes our mantle of responsibility. Our campaign is not about renovating homes, its about building communities”.

Renovations booked with Ottawa General Contractors during July will serve as a means to raise funds for Habitat for Humanity and help provide decent housing for less fortunate people in the community. Habitat for Humanity provides a valuable service for people who cannot afford to buy new homes, and Ottawa General Contractors are happy to assist the organization in those efforts. The company has always focused on helping the community and keeping families unified, and giving a portion of their profits to Habitat for Humanity is one way for them to give back to those in the area. They plan to do even more work with Habitat for Humanity in the next few months.

As one of the leading contractors in Ottawa, Ottawa General Contractors was a finalist in marketplace trust for the Better Business Bureau Torch Award in 2010. They strive to remain worthy of the trust their clients place in them and believe that people are more important than company profit.

Homeowners can help make a difference in the lives of some of the area’s needy people when they schedule their renovations with Ottawa General Contractors in the month of July. People who do not sign for renovations during July can still benefit Habitat for Humanity by visiting Ottawa General Contractors’ Facebook page. The company will donate one dollar in behalf of each person who clicks the “like” button on the page.

Ottawa Welcomes President Obama in First Foreign Trip as U.S. President

Ottawa Welcomes President Obama in First Foreign Trip as U.S. President

Canadian Tulip Festival Presents Tulip to American Embassy

Ottawa (Vocus) February 18, 2009

– U.S. President Barack Obama will make his first foreign visit as President on Thursday, February 19, spending the day in Ottawa, Canada’s capital city. Short videos of Ottawans welcoming the President and giving him advice on what he should see in Ottawa and know about Canadians have been posted at http://www.ottawatourism.ca (direct link is http://www.ottawatourism.ca/en/multimedia-a-images/video).

To celebrate the occasion, the local tourism industry has created several Obama-themed offerings, including:

The Obama BeaverTail, also known as an ObamaTail. A BeaverTailTM is a hot pastry treat born in Ottawa. It’s made of wholewheat dough stretched into the shape of the tail of one of Canada’s national symbols–the beaver–then float cooked in canola oil and served hot with a variety of delectable toppings. Usually Canadians choose from a topping of cinnamon and sugar, chocolate hazelnut, maple butter or apple cinnamon but on February 19, the ObamaTail will be served with cinnamon and sugar, then a whipped cream “O” topped with chocolate sauce and a splash of maple. They’re $ 3.75 each at the flagship store in the ByWard Market neighbourhood, or $ 4 each at kiosks along the Rideau Canal Skateway. ObamaTails were also served to 1000 guests of the Canadian Embassy in Washington during President Obama’s January inauguration. http://www.beavertails.ca
A five-foot tulip painted (see photo at right) with President Obama’s likeness by Ottawa artist Jill Alexander will be presented to the Embassy of the United States by the Canadian Tulip Festival. This annual event in Ottawa is the world’s largest tulip festival and runs May 1-18, 2009. Similar large painted tulips decorate the major festival sites. http://www.tulipfestival.ca
A non-alcoholic Obama Hawaiian Punch will be served to all guests at the Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites Ottawa Airport on February 19. http://www.hieottawa.com
An Obama-themed menu will be offered on February 18 and 19 at Graffiti’s Italian Eatery at the Holiday Inn Select in Kanata (west Ottawa). The menu features the Senator Obama Chicago-Style Omelette, the Barack Burger, the Inaugural Dinner Washington-Style and the Obamatini! http://www.hisottawa.ca
And “Claudio the Soup Guy” at Muffins Plus in the World Exchange Plaza’s food court downtown continues to sell out of his President Obama Chili Soup. He’s been making it–and selling out–since President Obama’s election in November.

Ottawa is a city brimming with internationally renowned museums, cultural attractions, a thriving culinary scene and a four-season outdoor paradise for those who like to bike, kayak, canoe, jog, or skate! President Obama’s visit comes just before the final weekend of Winterlude, Canada’s winter celebration, which features skating on the frozen Rideau Canal, snow and ice sculptures, outdoor concerts, children’s snow playgrounds, and all types of outdoor activities. http://www.winterlude.gc.ca

Ottawa Tourism Launches Demonstration Vacation

Ottawa Tourism Launches Demonstration Vacation

Ottawa, ON (Vocus/PRWEB) April 01, 2011

Ottawa Tourism today launched a new getaway package, called the Demonstration Vacation, to encourage Canadians and others to visit and exert their freedom of speech while in Canada’s capital.

The package includes two nights’ accommodation at one of a variety of hotels, a permit, two blank placards, two one-inch wooden sticks and a Sharpie (black only).

“We’ve done the research,” says Noel Buckley, the President and CEO of Ottawa Tourism. “There’s a real demand for people to express themselves peacefully on Parliament Hill. If we can make it easier for them to book their stays through our website, it’s a win-win situation!”

Ottawa Tourism already offers a variety of packages for people looking to rest and recharge (Sip, Savour and Spa) learn more about Canada (Get to Know Your Canada) or enjoy the Canadian Tulip Festival in May (Tulip Celebration) and the Demonstration Vacation simply adds to the mix.

“The announcement of a federal election just days ago was a happy coincidence,” says Buckley. “We feel there is a definite market among advocates of free speech for the one-stop-shopping experience Ottawa Tourism is offering with the Demonstration Vacation.”

This is just the latest creative venture from Ottawa Tourism, which earlier this year revamped its website and partnered with the City of Ottawa and local developer Purple Forge on the Discover Ottawa app, available for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch.

Ottawa Tourism provides industry leadership and destination marketing to service the travel media and attract visitors, tours and conventions to Ottawa and Canada’s Capital Region. Visit Ottawa Tourism at their attached website.

Ottawa Author Founds Society to Help Orphaned Children in Canada

Ottawa Author Founds Society to Help Orphaned Children in Canada

Ottawa, ON (PRWEB) November 12, 2006

Elizabeth Wiebe, an Ottawa author and advocate for orphaned children in Canada, has recently formed a non-profit society to further promote her efforts to help orphaned and abandoned children in Canada. Called the Elizabeth Wiebe Society for Orphaned Children in Canada, the society’s mission is to “Give orphaned children in Canada a chance by fostering awareness and empathy and promoting a determination to give every child the right to a permanent loving home so that they can evolve in all aspects of their development.”

Ms. Wiebe, author of the recent book “Orphan – Through the Eyes of an Orphan” and an orphan herself, is currently focusing her attention on the issue of making adoptions easier in Canada. “Why is it,” she states, “that Canadian couples find it easier to adopt four overseas children than to adopt a single Canadian child? Abandonment is a real, tangible issue for orphaned children, and the current foster care system simply does not address their special needs. Making adoptions easier in Canada would be a huge step on the road to caring for these children and helping them heal.”

The purpose of the society is not about rescuing individual children, but rather bringing awareness to their plight; about encouraging Canadian society to do a better and more enlightened job of dealing with children who suddenly find themselves without real parents, and improving the chances of these children to be adopted. Through the society, Ms. Wiebe is seeking funding to keep up lobbying pressure on legislators, media and other organizations that will ultimately apply the pressure needed to affect change. Current projects in the works include translation of her book into French, production of an audio version of the book and creation of a second book (see below). Ms. Wiebe also accepts speaking engagements and media interviews.

The society is seeking stories from orphaned or abandoned children, from foster parents and from those trying to adopt Canadian children. A second book, which will incorporate these stories, is in the early writing stages.

More information about the society is available on the website at http://www.ElizabethWiebeSociety.org.

Her book, “Orphan – Through the Eyes of an Orphan,” is available online at http://chapters.indigo.ca.
