Ottawa Tourism Launches Demonstration Vacation

Ottawa Tourism Launches Demonstration Vacation

Ottawa, ON (Vocus/PRWEB) April 01, 2011

Ottawa Tourism today launched a new getaway package, called the Demonstration Vacation, to encourage Canadians and others to visit and exert their freedom of speech while in Canada’s capital.

The package includes two nights’ accommodation at one of a variety of hotels, a permit, two blank placards, two one-inch wooden sticks and a Sharpie (black only).

“We’ve done the research,” says Noel Buckley, the President and CEO of Ottawa Tourism. “There’s a real demand for people to express themselves peacefully on Parliament Hill. If we can make it easier for them to book their stays through our website, it’s a win-win situation!”

Ottawa Tourism already offers a variety of packages for people looking to rest and recharge (Sip, Savour and Spa) learn more about Canada (Get to Know Your Canada) or enjoy the Canadian Tulip Festival in May (Tulip Celebration) and the Demonstration Vacation simply adds to the mix.

“The announcement of a federal election just days ago was a happy coincidence,” says Buckley. “We feel there is a definite market among advocates of free speech for the one-stop-shopping experience Ottawa Tourism is offering with the Demonstration Vacation.”

This is just the latest creative venture from Ottawa Tourism, which earlier this year revamped its website and partnered with the City of Ottawa and local developer Purple Forge on the Discover Ottawa app, available for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch.

Ottawa Tourism provides industry leadership and destination marketing to service the travel media and attract visitors, tours and conventions to Ottawa and Canada’s Capital Region. Visit Ottawa Tourism at their attached website.

NAMI Launches Social Networking Site for Young Adults: Mental Health, Finances, Relationships, Music and More

NAMI Launches Social Networking Site for Young Adults: Mental Health, Finances, Relationships, Music and More

Arlington, VA (PRWEB) March 23, 2010

The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) has launched StrengthofUs.org, a new online community where young adults living with mental health concerns can provide mutual support in navigating unique challenges and opportunities during the critical transition years from ages 18 to 25.

Developed by young adults, StrengthofUs.org is a user-driven social networking community where members can connect with peers, share personal stories, creativity and helpful resources by writing and responding to blog entries, engaging in discussion groups and sharing videos, photos and other news.

The site offers resources on issues important to young adults, including:

    Healthy relationships
    Family and friends
    Campus life
    Independent living
    Finances
    Employment
    Housing
    Mental health issues

“Young adulthood is an exciting challenge, but also a confusing and stressful time for anyone,” said Michael Fitzpatrick, NAMI executive director. “Life can throw things at you fast.”

“Mental illness affects everyone. StrengthofUs.org is intended not just for young adults who have a mental illness, but for anyone entering adulthood that has a friend, parent or other family member facing a mental health problem.”

“Most of all, StrengthofUs.org is an interactive, fun space where young adults can share experiences and other information to empower each other, build relationships and offer peer support.”

“StrengthofUs.org is about helping and inspiring each other,” said Alex M. White, age 23, a member of the advisory group of young adults who helped develop the Web site. “I would not be alive today if it had not been for the love, care and support I received from family, friends and loved ones.”

White was diagnosed with bipolar disorder at age 13. He dropped out of school and attempted suicide before gaining control of the illness.

A Montana State University graduate, White now leads a happy, productive life in New York City. He has made an award-winning short film, Une Vignette de Melancolie, about depression and suicidal ideation that has played internationally.

NAMI created the StrengthofUs community through the support of the Rodwell Dart Memorial Foundation, established by Hailey Dart, in loving memory of her son,

Roddy, who lost his life at age 22.

Special Note

On April 20, the Web site will host a “launch party” featuring a remix of the song “Goodmorning” from the upcoming Derivatives album by William Fitzsimmons, who worked helping people with mental illness before turning a passion for music into his profession. He was named an iTunes Best Singer-Songwriter for his album The Sparrow and the Crow and his music has been featured on the television show Grey’s Anatomy.

About NAMI

NAMI is the nation’s largest grassroots mental health organization dedicated to improving the lives of individuals and families affected by mental illness. NAMI has over 1100 state and local affiliates that engage in research, education, support and advocacy.

LaneChange.net Launches Service to Protect Businesses from Spam and Viruses

LaneChange.net Launches Service to Protect Businesses from Spam and Viruses

Ottawa, Ontario (PRWEB) June 7, 2004

LaneChange.Net, a complete Internet services solutions provider, announces a new online service that offers secure filtering and delivery of email to businesses that either operate their own email servers or are using email forwarding services for their own domain names.

“Spam, worms and viruses are costing companies thousands of dollars in lost productivity”, said Robert Schwartz, President of LaneChange.Net. “Every 4 minutes that an employee spends managing Spam, costs a businesses over 1% of salary expenses. Add to this the lost productivity bugs like viruses and worms cause when released onto a company network and these figures can easily double or triple.”

Built from the ground up for high-volume messaging environments, the email defense service, powered by MX Logic’s® Email Defense technology, provides around-the-clock email protection, automatically intercepting, analyzing and blocking malicious and unsolicited messages at the network perimeter-before they can enter the internal network. Using a filtering process that neither stores nor acknowledges receipt of an email message, email defense presents zero risk of message loss and virtually undetectable latency.

“The email defense service allows companies to take advantage of industrial strength Spam and virus filtering without hefty upfront costs or steep technical learning curve,” Schwartz said. “Network administrators and optionally end users, can manage Spam quarantines, white and black lists and can receive detailed reports of messages blocked by the service.”

In addition to its Spam and virus protection, the email defense service shields and conceals an organization’s messaging infrastructure, including the location of the customer’s mail servers, from the public Internet, removing the threat of network probes and providing robust protection from vulnerability and attack.

Email defense service pricing starts at $ 1 per email box, per month and is available now. For more information on email defense, see: http://www.lanechange.net/html/email_defense.shtml
